It is a technique that encourages you to observe your thoughts, emotions, and feelings detachedly. Meditation is one of the common ways to learn this skill.

When you are mindful, you are on a journey of self-discovery that helps you to unravel the mysteries of your inner world. You become aware of your thought patterns and mental state. This self-awareness helps you to understand your reactions and responses to specific situations.

Mindfulness encourages you to discover your inner self. What are you thinking? Why did these thoughts arise? How did these thoughts affect you? These probing questions can help you gauge your state of mind.

Practicing mindful meditation
1. Find a peaceful place where you won’t be disturbed.
Any quiet corner in your house or in the midst of nature is the perfect place to practice mindful meditation. There should be no distractions.
2. Position yourself comfortably.
You must sit or lie down in a position that suits you when you practice mindful meditation. You don’t want to feel awkward, get distracted, and break your chain of thoughts.
3. Close your eyes and focus on your breath.
Inhale deeply, then exhale slowly. Repeat this a few more times. Relax your body. Feel the rise and fall of your chest. What is the temperature and texture of your breath? Slowly start becoming aware of your thoughts and emotions. Allow them to flow freely. Don’t try to control or manipulate them. Observe without judging.
4. When your mind wanders, don’t worry.
It is normal for the mind to start wandering. When you realize that irrelevant thoughts are arising, slowly stabilize your mind and gently bring it back to your breath.
5. Be patient and kind to yourself
Don’t be harsh with yourself for getting distracted. Teach it the skill of mindful breathing.
6. Continue this practice for 5-10 minutes.
Don’t get discouraged and give up if you find it difficult to concentrate. It’s simply a matter of time. With practice, you will be able to master the technique of mindful meditation.

Mindful meditation is not just about discovering the stronger and weaker aspects of your personality. It is also about accepting yourself as you are.
